Children’s Ministry News

Parents are their children’s most important teacher in matters of faith. Sunday School can also play an important part in the spiritual nurturing and growth of children. Even very young children begin to understand that “Jesus Loves Me” as they are shown Christ’s love through the experiences of Sunday School with caring adults. Children are nurtured in the faith as Sunday School teachers share with them the stories of our faith and reinforce those stories through music and activities. Through the Sunday School program, children also develop friendships with other children and realize that this is ‘their church.’

We are fortunate to have a group of adults committed to the Sunday School program here so your child will see familiar faces each week and begin to establish relationships with these trusted adults. Please check the ‘FPC Children’s Ministry News’ page for what is being taught at a particular time. This page will also help you talk to your children during the week about what they did and learned in Sunday School.

CLASSES

Nursery & Toddler class: childcare is provided; books and activities are shared on an age appropriate basis.

Sunday School classes are provided beginning at the age a child would be enrolled in a two year old preschool class. Class designations are based on the preschool age class the child attends rather than their chronological age. Classes are age-adjusted depending upon the number of children attending.

Two and three year old children: Meet on the first floor of the Education Building and use the “Little Lambs” curriculum. This curriculum features a weekly Bible story and activities, rhymes and games that reinforce the story. Children are given a page to take home that lets the family know what they have been learning about so the story can be talked about at home.

Four and five year old children: Meet on the first floor of the Education Building and use the “Live Big,” curriculum. With this curriculum, a story is told and children watch a short DVD segment which reinforces the story there is lots of music and high energy movement. Activities which also reinforce and provide application of the story is also included as well as a page that the parents can use to talk about the story during the week.

First through Fifth Grade students: use the Workshop Rotation style of Sunday school. This style of Sunday school is very participatory and is based on the understanding that we all learn in different ways. One Bible story is taught in depth over a period of five weeks. Children attend a different ‘workshop’ with other students their age each week. The same story is taught in a various ways through these workshops which include: Art, Audiovisual, Bible skills and Games, Cooking and Drama/Storytelling.
