Worshiping with Us
Presbyterian worship centers around prayer, praise (especially through music) and the reading and preaching of the Word of God, the Old and New Testaments of the Bible. We bring our selves honestly before God by confessing our sins together. For us, a strong ministry of music is essential for lifting our hearts to the contemplation of God’s goodness in all things.
Presbyterians receive an offering during worship as a way of acknowledging before God that He is the giver of all things: life and health and salvation, we acknowledge that all our lives are meant to be a response to his great gift to us in Jesus Christ.
We pay special attention to the Word of God by reading and reflecting on the meaning of a substantial portion of the Bible together in worship. At First Presbyterian we recognize that our love and respect for the Bible often goes along with a slender knowledge of the actual story of the Bible, and so we concentrate on hearing and knowing the central message of God’s salvation story.
